Privacy policy
Last updated: 1 July 2026 · Effective across Canada
Moonlit Arcade ("we", "us") operates the website at moonlitarcade.ca. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to meet the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.
The short version. We do not sell personal information. We do not run advertising networks. We collect the minimum needed to answer your messages and to see which pages are read.
1. Who we are
Moonlit Arcade is an independent editorial publication registered in Ontario, Canada.
- Address: 215 Spadina Avenue, Suite 400, Toronto, Ontario M5T 2C7, Canada
- Privacy Officer: Elise Barnard
- Email: [email protected]
- Telephone: +1 (416) 555-0188
2. What we collect
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Contact data | Name, email address, message contents, chosen topic | You, via the contact form |
| Age confirmation | A yes/no flag stating you confirmed adult age | Stored in your browser only — not transmitted to us |
| Technical data | Truncated IP address, browser and device type, referring page | Automatically, via server logs |
| Usage data | Pages viewed, time on page, aggregate scroll depth | Privacy-focused analytics, if you accept them |
| Preference data | Cookie choice, reduced-motion preference | Stored in your browser only |
We do not collect payment details, government identifiers, precise location, biometric data, or any special category of sensitive information. Nothing on this site is for sale.
3. Why we collect it
- To reply to you. If you write to us, we need an address to answer.
- To keep the site working. Server logs help us spot outages, broken pages and abusive traffic.
- To improve the catalogue. Aggregate page statistics tell us which reviews people actually read.
- To meet our legal obligations, including record-keeping and responding to lawful requests.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not build advertising audiences.
4. Consent
By submitting the contact form you consent to us using the details you provide to answer your enquiry. Analytics cookies are set only after you choose "Accept all" on the cookie notice; choosing "Essential only" leaves them off. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser storage or writing to our Privacy Officer. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We share personal information only in these situations:
- Service providers. Our web host and email provider process data on our behalf under written agreements limiting their use of it.
- Legal requirement. Where disclosure is required by Canadian law, a court order, or a lawful request from a public authority.
- Protection of rights. Where necessary to investigate abuse, fraud, or a threat to the safety of any person.
We have never sold personal information and have no plans to. We do not disclose your information to game studios or advertisers.
6. How long we keep it
| Data | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Contact form correspondence | 24 months after the last message in the thread |
| Server logs | 30 days, then deleted automatically |
| Aggregate analytics | 14 months, in non-identifying form |
| Browser-side preferences | Until you clear your browser storage (age flag: 90 days) |
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS with a modern TLS configuration. Access to the mailbox and hosting console is limited to two editors and protected by multi-factor authentication. We keep no database of readers, which is the strongest safeguard available to us: information we never collect cannot be breached. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you access to it;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete correspondence we no longer need;
- explain how your information has been used and to whom it has been disclosed;
- withdraw consent, subject to legal and contractual restrictions.
Write to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days and will tell you if we need an extension. There is no charge for a reasonable request; we will tell you in advance if a request would carry a cost.
9. Minors
This website is intended solely for adults aged 18 or over — 19 in provinces and territories that set a higher age of majority. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact our Privacy Officer and we will delete it promptly.
10. Cross-border transfers
Our hosting is located in Canada. Our email provider may process message contents on servers in the United States, where information may be accessible to foreign courts and law enforcement under the laws of that jurisdiction. We use providers that offer contractual protections comparable to Canadian standards. If you would prefer not to have your message processed outside Canada, telephone us instead.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced with a notice on the home page for at least 30 days.
12. Complaints
If you are unhappy with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 1H3, or your provincial privacy authority. We would appreciate the chance to resolve the matter first.
