Cookie policy
Last updated: 1 July 2026 · Six entries, and you can turn four of them off
Short version: two items are strictly necessary and stay in your browser only. Everything else is optional and is set only if you choose "Accept all". We run no advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers and no social pixels.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — localStorage and sessionStorage — do the same job without sending anything back to the server on every request. This policy covers all three, and we call them "cookies" throughout for simplicity.
2. Strictly necessary
These make the site work as intended. They cannot be switched off from the cookie notice, but they never leave your device and contain no personal information.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ma.age.verified | localStorage | Remembers that you confirmed adult age, so the notice does not reappear on every page. | 90 days |
ma.cookie.choice | localStorage | Stores whether you chose "Accept all" or "Essential only". | 12 months |
3. Analytics (optional)
Set only after you choose "Accept all". They tell us which reviews are read and where readers leave, in aggregate. IP addresses are truncated before storage and no cross-site identifier is created.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ma.sid | sessionStorage | Distinguishes one visit from the next so pageviews are not double-counted. | Until the tab closes |
ma.ref | Cookie | Records the site that referred you, so we know where readers come from. | 30 days |
ma.stats | Cookie | Aggregate page-performance sampling (load time, layout stability). | 14 months |
4. Preferences (optional)
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ma.motion | localStorage | Remembers if you asked us to reduce on-page animation beyond your system setting. | 12 months |
5. Third-party content
We load our two typefaces from Google Fonts. That request tells Google the address of the page requesting the font and your IP address; Google states it does not use it to build an advertising profile. We embed no video players, no social widgets, no comment systems and no advertising tags. Photographs are hosted on our own server, so viewing them contacts no third party.
6. How to change your mind
- On this site: clear your site data for moonlitarcade.ca and the cookie notice will appear again on your next visit.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Site data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
Blocking the two strictly necessary items is possible, but the age notice will then appear on every single page load. That is a browser limitation, not a design choice.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a DNT: 1 header or a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of optional cookies and do not set them, whatever the cookie notice says.
8. Changes
If we add or remove a cookie, this table is updated and the "last updated" date changes. Where a new optional cookie is introduced, the notice reappears so you can make a fresh choice.
